The very latest in Soft Top design eliminates the need for seams on top of the main roof section. This is a design feature found on most new convertibles from Porsche, MG and of course the latest Mazda MX-5.

Prestige Hoods has incorporated this improved feature into a replacement hood for earlier Mazda MX-5 and Eunos vehicles built from 1989-1997.

The two pictures on the left illustrate the improved appearance and fit that results. You can see that the roof section is constructed from a single seamless piece of vinyl as opposed to the traditional 3 section roof that has two seams running front to back. (Compare with your existing hood). Eliminating the necessity to cut and sew the roof in 3 sections brings tremendous benefits in terms of improved fit and appearance, not to mention the long term durability benefits that a seamless roof provides.

We have also incorporated rain gutters above the door glass and of course retain the zip window feature of the original Mk.1 hood.

Helps to prevent rain water from dropping on your seats when opening the door. Some sellers may refer to it as a "rain rail" however this could be mis-leading.
The rain rail is commonly known to be fitted around the rear of the car. It is a separate Mazda Part that is usually re-used during the installation of your new hood.

How to Spot the Differences
It is easy to buy a hood just slightly cheaper, or more usually quite a bit dearer than the Prestige Hood but these pictures will help you to spot the differences between the Original Prestige Hood and the many un-branded hoods offered for sale that do not feature the important quality elements discussed here.

In the photographs above you can see that the Prestige Hood has an original "Flexglas" rear window that features a wide textured weld. The photograph on the right depicts a typical aftermarket hood with a non-original rear window and a thinner weld with no radius corners.

Notice the zip window on the “typical budget hood” shows a stitch line about 5cm from the sides and top of the plastic window. This means that the zip panel has been stitched into the hood. Stitching is probably the weakest point in any hood. Stitching that is exposed to the elements is likely to rot, leak and fail well before the rest of the hood has reached its sell by date. You won’t find this type of stitching in the original Mazda hood and nor will you in the Prestige Hood.

Double layered edges for maximum strength
and resistance to shrinkage

Below left you can see that the Prestige Hood features double layered edges to the roof panel above the side windows, bonded for maximum strength and resistance to shrinking. The right hand picture depicts a typical aftermarket hood with inner flaps of material that are not bonded to the edges of the roof panel.
