1. Item Description and Bidding/ Shipping Cost and Policy/ Payment Instructions:
Please review my feedback before bidding. One (1) Matchbox Lesney 38c-4 Honda Motorcycle and Trailer, yellow trailer, "HONDA" labels variation. This model is in very good condition from an adult collection. It was introduced in 1967. I have carefully and accurately restored some edgewear on the trailer. The motorcycle has some loss on the fuel tank and the rump of the seat which I have not had time to restore. The labels are 100%, fresh, bright and well placed. The kickstand which had gone missing has been replaced with one I made that works just fine as you can see in the photos. This model will display as nicely next to its F type image enhanced box. Additional photos are available to your e-mail address upon request up to 4 hours prior to auction end. The free box which will be sent with the model has been computer improved and therefore is not an original but also not a flawed photocopy. Read our feedback. It is constructed of proper, original weight tagboard, square and functionally perfect, accurately detailed inside and out, fresh and bright. It is intended for display and storage purposes with this genuine Lesney Products model only. Please contact us with any questions you may have up to three hours prior to the end of the auction. We always ship combined. If you are concerned about international shipping cost, ask us for an estimate of total shipping and we will promptly reply. Free shipping, if offered, is for U.S. customers only. We will, however, offer our international customers the very best rate available consistent with safe shipping practises. See note on Free Shipping Caveats below.
Please do not pay for your winnings until I send an invoice to you, especially if you have won multiple items. To do so can result in confusion and error on my part. Thank you for your understanding and compliance.
2. Grading:
FC = Fair condition. At least 90% original paint remaining on visible surfaces. No touch-ups. Some physical flaws may exist which will be disclosed in the listing. This grade is commonly known as 'well played with' but not 'from the bottom of the sandbox' or 'participated in a demolition derby'. I normally will not sell such badly damaged models unless recommended for 'parts or restoration', and then in lots. Some or all of the original complement of accessories have gone missing.
GC = Good condition. At least 95% original paint remaining on visible surfaces. No touch-ups. No significant physical flaws other than paint unless disclosed in the listing. This grade is commonly referred to as 'gently played with'. Some or all of the original complement of accessories have gone missing.
VGC = Very good condition. At least 95% original paint remaining on visible surfaces. This model may have been previously graded FC or GC. Missing paint may have been competently touched-up and/or competent physical repairs may exist. Whenever I have performed or notice such restoration, I will disclose it in the listing. Occasionally, I may miss repairs done by others. Models graded VGC usually have come from my collection or another adult collection which I have acquired. Be mindful that these models are 30-55 years old. Even adults 'played' with them from time to time. They make nice collection display pieces but should not be confused with investment grade models. Accessories may be missing, which fact will be noted in the listing.
EXC = Excellent. At least 99% of original paint remaining on visible surfaces. Paint 'flea'bites' or minor chips may have been competently touched-up or not. Whenever I have performed such restoration, I will disclose it in the listing. No physical flaws other than paint are apparent to me. Accessories, if missing, will be noted in the listing. This is the standard I use for my personal collection. I am not an investor. A few chips do not bother me. I am not a purist. If this is a concern for you, I suggest that you may want to forego a model I grade EXC. All original accessories are present.
NM = Near Mint. Paint is nearly perfect, clean, shiny and bright on all exterior surfaces (except for possibly the base, if painted). Remaining original paint approaches 100% with the possible exception of any factory paint flaws or a 'flea bite' (impact or delaminated chip or two of <1 mm) which will be disclosed in the listing. No other physical flaws are apparent to me. All original accessories are present.
VNM = Very near mint. Paint is factory, period, full stop (original factory flaws will be noted in the listing if they exist and I notice them). No other physical flaws exist that I see. All accessories are present. The Lesney cognoscenti (which I do not claim to be) may see or know of flaws which I cannot see on a particular model. They may have higher standards.
DM = Dead mint. Perfect as from the factory, full stop. The model has not been handled by human hands since it left the factory. I may occasionally sell original pristine blister packed models but even these may have rubs. No other of my offerings will ever be graded DM.
3. Definitions:
Flaws, physical: Include but not limited to missing or broken tow hooks, bent parts, rust, corrosion, cracked wheels, plastic parts or 'glass', loose rivets, dirty , torn, chipped, flaked or missing decals (tampos) or labels.
Flaws, paint: Include but not limited to chips, 'flea bites', nicks, delamination, abrasion (box rubs), discoloration, etc., but not cleanable dirt or dust.
Flaws, factory: A production anomaly of any sort existing since manufacture and not restored. This includes paint problems. A model may still be graded up to VNM with factory flaws which will be noted in the listing.
Touch-up(s): Paint restoration. If done by me, high quality enamels are used after proper surface preparation. Paint is matched to the best of my ability, which, I am told, is very good. Under close inspection, these touch-ups will be visible because the paint is overlayed and the contour can be seen at certain angles. Lesney was rather imprecise with their paint process therefore, in most cases, the touch-ups blend right in with the totality of the intrinsic flaws in the original finish. I do not generally touch up the base but sometimes I do. If the condition of the base is important to you, ask me questions or request an additional photograph.
Restoration: Broadly defined as something done to the model to correct a flaw. Examples include but are not limited to replacement tow hooks, wheels and/or tractor treads, decals (tampos), labels, straightening parts, and paint touch-up as above. I do not do base-off restoration as I have not competently mastered the rivet problem. I am working on it, though. I am also trying to learn to airbrush. Any restoration, regardless of the extent, will be noted in my listings.
Visible surfaces: Exterior surfaces, i.e., the surfaces which were originally intended to be factory painted.
Corrosion: The toys are made of metal and plastic, the metal used commonly is zamak (or Mazak), an alloy of zinc and aluminium (aluminum). Zamak is also referred to as white metal or pot metal. The unpainted bases and attached parts, in particular, can oxidize and discolor, powderize and/or flake. When I judge this to be excessive, it will be called corrosion.
Lesney: The name Lesney here refers to any toy or collectible model produced by the now defunct Lesney, Co., Ltd. using the die casting method. I only sell Lesney Matchbox made in the United Kingdom.
Boxes: Unless otherwise indicated are not original. For further information about these, see the listing and/or contact us at lesneylegacy@comcast.net before bidding. If I am selling an original box, I will always prominently note such fact.
4. Free Shipping Caveats:
Free shipping applies to U.S. buyers only, no quantity limitation. International buyers will please ignore shipping calculator for multiple purchases as we will give you the absolute lowest rate available in a combined package consistent with safe international packaging practices. The cost will usually be less than the majority of other sellers as it is not our policy to profit on shipping.
5. Terms and Conditions of Bid and Sale:
Every effort will be made to transact business in a mutually satisfactory and pleasant manner but, in order to avoid any misunderstanding, the following T & Cs apply.
Payment: If payment is not made immediately, the successful bidder must contact Sellers within 48 hours to let Sellers know when they may expect payment. For U.S. Bidders, eBay now stipulates that PayPal is the only payment method which may be referenced in this listing. If you do not have a PayPal account, contact me at lesneylegacy@comcast.net For Virginia residents, payment of sales tax is your responsibility when you file your state tax return. For International Bidders, only PayPal is accepted. International estimated combined shipping rate is subject to inquiry prior to bidding based upon the gross parcel weight of the number of models anticipated to be won. Our shipping rates are reasonable and objective. We are not in the business of making a profit on shipping but we must recover our costs. In the absence of an agreement between the parties, payment must be received within five (5) days of the auction end or Sellers reserve the right to relist the item without notice. Risk of Loss, Insurance and Claims: Normally, only domestic (U.S.) shipments can be insured at the buyers option and will always be offered on the invoice. International shipments may be insured but the cost is generally very high. If international insurance and tracking is desired, the international Buyer must request a quotation before bidding, otherwise, it is understood that no insurance or tracking number will be provided. International Buyers, please see additionaI paragraph below. If an insured item is received damaged or goes missing, no refund will be given until the postal investigation is concluded. If an item is received damaged, the Buyer must note the damage on the shipping receipt whenever possible and retain all shipping materials pending an insurance claim. Transit time: Our policy is to ship quickly. Sellers will make every effort to ship within 48 hours of receipt of a cleared payment but force majeure applies for circumstances beyond the Sellers control (e.g.; a postal strike, natural disaster, etc.). In any case, once it leaves our hands, Sellers have no control over transit time. Note on international shipping: Shipping rate will be calculated based upon the dimensions and weight of a packaged item. We start with one model in a six (6) oz. gross weight parcel at eBay calculated rates which you see in the listing. We ship all international items via uninsured U.S. Post Office International First Class post by default. Only premium U.S. Postal Service or commercial (e.g. DHL, UPS, FedEx) services offer insurance and tracking for international shipments. The availability and cost of these premium shipping services are subject to inquiry prior to bidding. It is presumed that international buyers are aware of their home country's customs regulations and other laws in connection with an item imported from the United States. Customs documentation will always be completed in a regular manner however, value of the item indicated on customs declaration forms is not necessarily the final selling price of the item and could be different. In order to minimise weight and paperwork, nothing but the purchased item and packing materials will be placed inside of a shipping box. Documentation for your purchase is readily available on eBay and PayPal. If requested, we will provide proof of mailing in the form of a .pdf image file of your numbered customs declaration form for your shipment and a postal receipt referencing the same number. It is understood that the international Buyer accepts the risk of loss for an uninsured international shipment. If an international item is refused and returned for legal or regulatory (customs) reasons, any refund (less shipping and handling) will be at the Sellers discretion if the item is received back from the authorities timely (within 10 calendar days) and in the condition in which it was sent.
