This is an original painting by artist Martina Shapiro. This portrait of a nude has a contemporary, almost cartoon-like appearance, but with much more expression, with the vibrant colors. The brushstrokes are very expressive too, and some white space is left on the paper.

Artist Biography

Martina Shapiro was born in Czech Republic. There she attended art school, and after moving to Canada she continued her studies to gain a masters degree. Her style developed into one of Fauvism and Expressionism, with vibrant colors and abstract images to portray the human emotions. She has a belief in the power of original paintings in particular, in that the artist has put his or her own life energy into the piece, and this universal energy can be felt by the viewer. Shapiro has exhibited extensively in Western Canada, and also at Allison Corey Fine Arts, Long Island, New York, and Showroom Elena Miro, Milan, Italy. Her paintings can be found in the Supreme Court of Canada, Midtown Artery, in South Carolina, and in many private and public collections around the world.
