Martha Osborne Antique Boy Pastel Portrait Painting

Description: An exquisite portrait, pastel on artist's paper, signed "Martha Osborne", and dated 1895 and framed - approx 33 X 26 inches (83.82 X 66.04cm). This is an exquisite English School pastel dating from the Victorian period. The portrait depicts a charming study of a young boy, possibly around five or six years of age. The young man dressed in a blue jacket and white ruffled blousen beautifully sketched in pastel and chalk. This angelic young boy, full of youth and innocence, looks directly at the viewer, his pale skin tones contrasting with rosy cheeks, with deep soft brown eyes gazing at the viewer, with short brown wavy hair. The portrait is set on a blue mottled ground. A classic English School study from the late 19th Century Victorian period. The work is signed and dated lower right - "Martha Osborne", 1895.

Date: 1895

Framing: Contemporary classic scroll and floral moulded Gesso work. Finish: Gilt. The pastel is mounted on board and has a gilt mount.

Condition: The pastel is generally in excellent condition for its age, having some minor foxing in areas to the ground, adding to character and authenticity. The pastel is set behind glass in a large heavy gesso frame. The frame has a few minor marks and chips but has survived remarkably well considering its age.
