Metal Forming – Basic Problems, first published 1942 now on CD. 42 Pages of text and illustrations explaining the basic metal forming or metal shaping problems. There are extra items also included (see below).

The subject goes beyond airframe fabrication and can be used as a reference to metal fabrication of any kind.

It is an ideal reference for engineers and students with an interest in metal forming as it was in the 1940s. All of the techniques in here can be adapted to your own project. Hi tech 60 years ago is garage tech today.

The writing style is fluid and uncomplicated – in our opinion much better than the newer text books which tend to dumb down language to the point of being unintelligable.

1. Introduction. – The development of the all-metal airplane has followed closely the development of aluminum and its alloys. The light weight of aluminum, together with the high tensile strength of its alloys, has made it an ideal metal not only for the structural members of the airplane, but also as a covering for all surfaces such as the wings, the fuselage, and the tail section. The formability of the metal has made it possible to shape aluminum alloy sheets and strips to any contour required for the perfect streamiling of the skin surfaces, and to use realtively thin material to form such structural shapes as Z setions, channel sections, and such others as may be needed in the construction of the plane.
