MUTANT MT2004 4 CHANNEL CAR AMPLIFIER

This is a terrific 4 channel amp, brand new and boxed. WE SHIP IT WITH A COMPLETELY FREE 360W WIRING KIT, AS PER THE PHOTO.

This contains: 20 feet of 8 gauge power wire, 4 feet of 8 gauge earth wire, 20 feet of blue remote turn on wire, 20 feet of 12 gauge speaker cable, a 20 foot RCA gold plated interconnect, 6 feet of split loom for cable protection and a high quality gold plated 60A AGU fuse and water resistant fuse holder. You also get a range of screws, terminals, grommet etc.. You won't be disappointed -  this really is a complete package!!

How powerful is the amp?

Obviously the output power varies depending on the way that you set it up, but with THD at LESS THAN 0.05% (!) you will get:

4x50 W RMS @ 4 ohms

OR

4x70 W RMS @ 2 ohms

OR

2x140 RMS @ 4 ohms bridged

THAT IS A LOT OF POWER, AND THIS AMP WILL HAPPILY RUN MOST APPLICATIONS WITH GRUNT TO SPARE.

What is this amp good at?

It will be perfect for (for example):

Running a subwoofer AND a pair of speakers

OR

Running a pair of speakers at VERY HIGH POWER

OR

Running a pair subwoofers

It really is a very versatile piece of equipment which can be set up to do a very great deal of different jobs.

Tell me a bit about all the controls on this amp please!

You have high and low level inputs, so whether you have a head unit with RCA phono amp outputs or simple speaker wires you can hook it up fine.

You also have an output, so you can daisychain another amp without using 'Y' leads. Much neater.

There are fully independant controls for both banks of channels on this amp - you have separate HIGH/LOW/OFF switches for each crossover unit and then separate gain and filter knobs for high and low pass, which range from 40Hz to 240Hz. 

Why should I buy this amp? What makes it the best in its class?

(WARNING - TECHNICAL STUFF!!)

Many unbranded amps claim enormous wattages - that might sound good at first glance but please take a second to digest the facts:

Your car electrical system is 12 volts. Look at the size of fuse in the amplifier you are considering. Say it is (like this Mutant amp) a 40 Amp fuse.

Now, 12 (Volts) x 40 (Amps) = 480 Watts.

This figure is the absolutely MAXIMUM figure of power that it is physically possible for the amp to produce, regardless of any other factor. This amp would DEFINITELY get close to consuming 480 W Maximum (just before your fuse blew) but then the amount of distortion you'd be listening to would be unacceptable. So that's why Mutant quote RMS figures, with nice low less than 0.05% Total Harmonic Distortion figures. 

Let me give you an example to think about. Say that the manufacturer is quoting 1000W from a competitor product. Reverse the sums:

1000/12 = 83 AMPS!!

In other words, if the amp you're looking at does not have at least an 83 amp fuse then you're being told porkies.... :-))
