For sale is my Musical Fidelity A5 Pre Amplifier, complete with Remote Control, a copy of the instruction manual (downloaded from the MF web site) and the original box and internal packing. The original retail price of this pre-amp was £1500 and it received many favorable reviews when it was introduced in mid 2005. Full details of this model including the Instruction Manual and directions to reviews can be found at http://www.musicalfidelity.com/products/archived/a5crpre.html
Built like a brick out house the A5 measures 440x125x397 and weighes just over 13kg ( thats 17 1/4 x 5x15 5/8 and 29 lbs in old money). the weight is accounted for not only by its solid chassis but the true dual-mono nature of the amp, which includes the choke regulation of the power supply. This machine is in excellent electrical and mechanical condition, excepting 2 small, about 1mm diameter, dents just to the right of the volume control (see picture 6).
The back panel features gold plated phono input sockets for MM/MC phono, SACD, CD, Tuner, Tape and HT direct, the HT direct allows the connection of a signal from an external source to the pre-amp and on to the power amp - the volume of this signal is controllrd from the source, the A5 volume control has no effect on the signal, ideal for using your main 2 channel system with a sorround sound processor. Additionally there are gold plated phono sockets for tape output and pre amp output to feed a power amp.
I have used the pre-amp with both Valve and Transistor Power amps and the results are superb. In a test report in HI Fi News, June 2005, David Allcock compared the A5 to a Krell RC-3 (which in 1977 sold for over twice the price - plus inflation you do the maths) and concluded that the A5 was slightly leaner in the bass but with more texture and greater control - equally detailed and textured in the midrange, and unasahamedly better in the upper frequencies. The switchable Moving Coil/Moving Magnet phono stage was described as very close to MF's own X-LP V3, a £250 stand alone phono stage. David Allcock ended his review by describing the A5 as "an outstanding bargin" (even at £1500).
I would prefer collection of this unit but can send it anywhere in the UK mainland by next day TNT delivery, the unit will be double boxed for safety.
Bid with confidence, my 304 feedback rating is 100% has been gained over the last 3 years buying and selling only Hi Fi equipment and related items, the comments given by the eBayers I have dealt with is further testimony to to the items I buy and sell.
I will be happy to answer any questions relating to the A5 except the one about a buy it now price and the one about the cost of sending items overseas, this is a strictly a UK only auction.
Thanks for looking
