Tottenham Hotspur were formed in 1882 under the name of Hotspur Football Club, as a union between Hotspur Cricket Club and boys from a local grammar school.  When the club moved to White Hart Lane in 1899, one of England's most famous and successful football teams began to take shape.

Pre-war success in Division Two and the FA Cup was followed by the evolution of a fluid, attacking style of football under the stewardship of Bill Nicholson, who spend an incredible 68 years at Spurs, a devoted servant as player, scout, manager and president.  During his stint as manager, Spurs became the first British club to life a major European trophy, thrashing Athletic Madrid 5-1 to life the European Cup Winners Cup in 1963.

A string of other honours followed for Nicholson's side, including three F A Cups, two League Cups, two UEFA Cups and a League Championship - including the first "double" winning the League and FA Cup in the same season) in the 20th century.

Spurs continue their tradition of attractive, free-scoring football, with recent favourites such as David Ginola and Jurgen Klinsmann now emulated by the likes of Robbie Keane, Aaron Lennon and Dimitar Berbatov - an exciting young side that strive to match the achievements of Spurts legend from the past.
