This is an original Minolta MD 50mm f/2.0 standard lens, in very good condition and suitable for all Minolta manual focus SLR cameras (see below), but not auto focus models.

While the more common zoom lenses are around f/3.5-4.5, this f/2.0 standard lens model gives around two stops extra light, resulting in much brighter images in the viewfinder, easier focusing and faster shutter speeds in dim conditions. For example, low light conditions that would require a perfectly safe 1/60th at f/1.7 with this lens would need a distinctly wobbly 1/15th with a typical zoom! Even if you already have a standard zoom, this will make a useful addition to your outfit for low light, or where quality is all-important.

The lens focuses down to 0.45m (18 inches) with distances clearly marked in feet and meters plus infrared index and depth of field scale. The focusing ring is large, with a rubber grip for secure handling. This is a manual focus lens, but it has the extra focus assist coupling pin required for the (now rare) Minolta X-600, which had electronic focus confirmation.

Maximum aperture is f/2.0 and the lens stops down to f/22, with half stops from f/2.8 to f/16. Automatic diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with all exposure modes including shutter priority and program on suitable cameras. Minimum aperture marked in green, with locking switch for these modes.

Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare against the light, and increased contrast. Standard, compact 49mm screw thread for filters and other accessories. This does not rotate when focusing, which makes the lens much easier to use with polarizing, graduated or square filters and other accessories.

The lens is nicely built (in Japan), with a metal lens mount and a high standard of fit and finish. It is compact and lightweight at only around 36mm (1.4 inches) long at its smallest settings on the camera, and a mere 165g.

The lens is in fully working order, and very good condition. Aperture and focus controls work smoothly, the diaphragm stops down smartly and is free of oil, each aperture setting clicks into place positively, and the lock works securely. The glass is in excellent condition, with no scratches, bubbles, fungus, cleaning marks or other problems, beyond tiny specks of dust as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all. Cosmetically, the lens has clean paintwork and only the usual signs of use, with just some small paint scrapes and surface scratches here and there. The lens caps are also in good condition.

No dents, dings or deep scratches, the filter thread is undamaged, and overall it's in nice shape!
