"Militia Musters, 1781-82 - Volume 5: Wales" published by Family History Indexes. CD with Adobe Reader files (*.pdf, Reader supplied.) The files are fully searchable and there are many options for viewing and navigation.
One of a series of six volumes plus index covering the whole of England & Wales with 58,946 records in total. The information has been taken from originals at the National Archives (former Public Record Office) at Kew, Surrey.
This volume covers the following counties:
- Anglesey
- Caernarvonshire
- Denbighshire
- Flintshire
- Merionethshire
- Montgomeryshire
- Cardiganshire
- Radnorshire
- Pembrokeshire
- Carmarthenshire
- Brecknockshire
- Glamorganshire
- Monmouthshire
This volume carries an introduction and map showing how the country is divided, as well as the surname master index to the whole series.
For each county, there is an introductory file which gives the background to the musters, which are not to be confused with the county-held Militia Lists. These are the musters and paylists for men actually serving their time - not just those who might be called up. Details of when they were mustered (to the exact day) and where (to the precise camp) are given for each six-monthly muster. Some counties have missing papers in the original for one of the four expected dates.
For each county, there is also a database which gives each man's name and rank in a fully cross-referenced list, showing his presence or absence, promotion, discharge or transfer (and sometimes death or other event). The originals are arranged by the name of the company commander or officer and these details are also noted.
