Dragon Ball Z
The series continues the adventures of Son Goku who, along with his companions, defend the Earth and other fictional planets against various supervillains . While the original Dragon Ball anime followed Son Goku through childhood into adulthood, Dragon Ball Z parallels his adult life with the maturation of his first child, Son Gohan . The series also gives focus to the evolution of his rivals, Piccolo and Vegeta , from evil to good. The separation between the series is also significant as the later series takes on a more dramatic and serious tone, with a number of villains either threatening or committing acts of mass murder or outright genocide .
Akira Toriyama 's self-parody manga series Neko Majin satires many concepts introduced in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z .
Son Guku
Originally named Kakarotto , Goku is born a member of a fictional race of extraterrestrials called Saiyan . Shortly following his birth, Goku is sent from his home, Planet Vegeta, to prepare Earth for sale on the intergalactic market by destroying all its life. Due to an injury to his head that caused him severe amnesia , Goku forgets his purpose, and instead focuses on becoming stronger for little more than the pleasure of it. As the series continues, Goku meets Bulma , a brilliant teenage girl, Yamucha , Oolong , and Pu'ar , whose characters mirror those found in Wu Cheng'en 's Journey to the West . He also encounters one his closest friends, Kuririn , and others during his training. Participating in several World Martials Arts Tournaments , Goku also battles foes-turned-allies such as Tenshinhan and Chaozu , as well as the offspring of Piccolo Daimao named Piccolo Junior .
Through constant training, Goku has achieved many abilities, such as super strength , super speed and the ability to fly using one's chi energy. Goku's signature technique is a chi energy blast called the Kamehameha , which he learned from Muten Roshi . Another signature technique of his is an attack that multiplies the user's chi for an instant, called the Kaio-ken , taught to him by North Kaio . Goku's most powerful attack is the Genki Dama or Spirit Bomb, a sphere created by gathering chi energy, which he also learned from North Kaio. Goku also learns a teleportation skill called Shunkan Ido or Instant Transmission, which he learned from the inhabitants of a fictional planet called Yardrat.
