I bought this CD solely for the recording of Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, rather than Mascagni's Cavaliers Rusticana (which is nevertheless performed brilliantly). Having read reviews of di Stefano's performance I wanted to hear for myself. Indeed, as some reviewers have already commented, his rendition of Canio eclipses all others that I have heard, including that of Caruso. During the famous aria "Vesti la giubba", his voice is so powerful and emotionally charged there is no other recording quite like it. Although Callas' voice at the time of recording was starting to lose its quality, her rendition of Nedda is still very beautiful and gives the impression that Nedda is a real woman with powerful emotions (unlike some other versions which are just as beautiful but perhaps too sweet for the character).
I'm delighted with this recording and especially at this price, it's definitely worth the money.

Maria Callas died in 1977, yet she continues to cast a spell over opera lovers of all ages. And no wonder. No other singer poured so much of her life and soul into her art. This two-CD collection compiles her  famous roles in Pagliacci and Cavalleria Rusticana tracks that span the breadth of her operatic repertory.
