MARCONI TF 1066B /13M SIGNAL GENERATOR
Here we have a Marconi VHF / UHF Signal Generator in Full Working Order. I acquired this second hand from what was Arrow Electronics (Hatfield Peveral) some years ago. At the time, i paid about £265 for this. I have used it during the conversion of old PMR radio equipment to the Amateur Radio Bands, but that hobby has now got to go due to family commitments.
The Generator is according to the manuals from the mid 60's. I have never had the need to open, but believe it to be both Valve and Transistor (Hybrid). I know that Arrow did have it serviced just prior to selling it to me.
It gives CW, FM and AM outputs in the VHF and UHF bands. A frequency coverage of 10Mhz to 470Mhz is provided in 5 ranges:
(A) 10Mhz - 22Mhz
(B) 22Mhz - 50Mhz
(C) 50Mhz - 115Mhz
(D) 115Mhz - 270Mhz
(E) 270Mhz - 470Mhz
FM deviations up to 400Khz can be obtained, with optional 2 different modulation frequencies to be used. External Modulation can also be applied if required (for AM)
The RF Output level of the Generator is controlled by a constant impedance piston - attenuator. The attenuator dial is direct reading in terms of source e.m.f. or voltage developed across a 50 Ohm load. This type of attenuator makes it a joy to use, since you can attenuate the signal increasingly as you are tuning up a receiver front end until you have virtually no output.
Warm up time is best an Hour or so, but i've used it directly after switch on. The only problem with not waiting for the warm up time is the slight frequency drift that occurs, but a simple retune of the dial with a frequency counter attached sorts that out.
I was supplied 2 manuals with the unit which contain Operating instructions, Alignment Instructions, and Circuit Diagrams.
If your into PMR, then this kit is a great way to get the kit working. If you've got the Chris Lorek PMR Conversion Handbook, then you will see it is the same model !
Condition of the front panel is EXCELLENT, and the case is in reasonable order too. I believe it was originally an option for a 19" rack mounting, although this unit is cased and with a standard 240 Volt UK Mains Plug on the end.
Sorry but no test leads are supplied with the Generator.
Winning bidder can if necessary see it working before take away.
