He was the author of numerous important works on English history and ecclesiastical history.
Louise Creighton 1850-1936 his wife and author of this work was a historian in her own right, and a leading figure in the cause for women's right. 

This work shows not only the public career of this famous historian but also glimpses into the fascinating personal and private life of both husband and wife and their seven children.

Illustrated with 4 photogravure plates plus 7 photographic plates, with a total of 974 pages including a complete bibliography of his works, articles, lectures, addresses, essays, reviews and sermons.

CONDITION
Three quarter morocco leather bindings, bound by Riviere & Son, with binders stamp on bottom edge of front endpaper of both volumes, spines with raised bands and gilt decorations, titles in gilt lettering, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, all pages and plates are clean and bright.
