"Make Another Signal" by Captain Jack Broome is a collection of naval signals from the logs of warships past and present. Some are concerned with great battles and other important naval events whilst some cover much more mundane issues. Some are very serious whilst others are very funny.
The book is broken down into four parts:-
- "From Age to Age", a history of signals and signalling;
- "Special Flags and Customs" ;
- "Naval History by Signal", covering naval engagements from the Glorious First of June, through the Napoleonic Wars, First and Second World Wars up to the incident involving HMS Amethyst in 1949; and
- "Scrap Log", a collection of miscellaneous signals, often very funny!
The book is illustrated throughout, mainly with black and white line drawings by Captain Broome himself but there are also eight pages in colour illustrating naval flags and signals.
Hardback, approx 9.5x6.5" with 255 pages.
There is some wear and tear to the original dust jacket, most noticeably slight fading on the spine and a small tear top right corner. The price corner is unclipped. Inside is very clean and tidy, some slight age-related discolouration to the pages but nothing serious. Overall in very good condition.
This edition is a second impression published in January 1974 (first published in 1973) by William Kimber & Co.
Will be sent securely packaged, bubble wrapped and in a bubble envelope.
