Summary
This is a pre-painted and partly pre-assembled model of the M551 Sheridan "light" tank; it was officially known as an Armoured Airborne Reconnaissance Assault Vehicle. It is pre-painted in a U.S. Army desert paint scheme with additional markings. The model also includes a turret mounted anti-aircraft machine gun with seated American soldier (nicely pre-painted details).

These particular 1/144th scale models are very accurately moulded in dense plastic resin and painted with a very high level fine detailing. The turret rotates laterally, and the underside of the tank is also detailed.

This is one model from a collection of 16 tanks (including the rare "A Bridge Too Far" movie model) available from the Takara World Tank Museum Volume 09 (released in 2006). This volume of models featured post World War II AFVs; and has now been discontinued.

The model is brand new and individually sealed in it's original plastic tray and boxed. The box has been carefully opened (from the bottom - top seal intact) in order to identify which model it is, but otherwise the box is in brand new condition.

Please Note - The models were sold randomly packed in Japan, therefore the box must be opened to discover which model of a possible 16 is inside.

Brief Military History
The M551 Sheridan was an Armoured Airborne Reconnaissance Assault Vehicle developed by the U.S.A., named after Civil War General Philip Sheridan. It was designed to have both an air drop and swimming capability. The main armament consisted of an 152mm M81 gun/missile launcher capable of firing conventional ammunition and the MGM-51 Shillelagh antitank missile (20 conventional rounds and 8 missiles). In addition to the main gun/missile launcher, the M551 was armed with a 7.62mm M240 machine gun and a 12.7mm M2 HB anti-aircraft machine gun. The M551 was rushed into combat service in Vietnam in January 1969. During 1969, M551s were deployed to units in Europe and Korea. It saw extensive combat in Vietnam, and limited service in Operation Just Cause (Panama), and Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm (Kuwait).
