This delightful little Victorian ladies jewellery/sewing box dates to around the mid 19th century.
It has a beautiful polished Walnut veneer with black ebonised edging and is in lovely antique condition.
The box retains the original, nice quality brass stop hinges, round mother of pearl escutcheon and cartouche and a brass lock with working replacement key.
The exterior has only had some very minor restoration. There are just two very small corner pieces of replacement veneer at the bottom of one side, which are not very obvious. There are some very minor blemishes as would be expected and one or two tiny little cracks to the veneer on one side edge of the lid, but this is stable and these small faults are consistent with the age of the box and part of it's history.
The interior has been recently restored to make the box suitable for jewellery rather than for sewing items, but it could be used for either.
Real silk has been used for the lining, as well as Regency design white and gold paper, which is very much in keeping. There is a lift-out tray with padded silk lining and matching silk covered pad under the lid and in the bottom of the box. All is in lovely condition.
The box measures just over 6.75 inches by 4.25 inches and 3 inches high (17.2 cms x 10.8 cms x 7.5 cms).
