This is a lovely Antique Oak and Mahogany Grandfather clock dating from the early to mid 1800's, by Hargrave of Bawtry and in full working order. The beautiful Georgian case of lovely slim proportions with a long shaped door with the original working lock and key and tarnished key escutcheon, and a moulded plinth to the base. The hood has a lovely finial between the swan neck pediment hood, and free standing Brass Capped pillars at each side of the hood door. The pretty painted dial is in good original condition, it has floral scenes to the four corners and a landscape entitled "Haddon Hall" to the top arch. Haddon Hall is a very famous medieval Manor house dating from the 12th Century, it can be found in the Peak district and it has featured in many TV programs and films, so quite an unusual scene to find on a clock arch! The 30 hour movement is nice and clean and in full working order, with the original weight and pendulum, and keeping very good time and chiming out the hours on a bell. The clock measures 86 1/2 inches in height and 20 1/4 inches in width across its widest part of the hood. The seatboard of the clock has been replaced at some time but this is a lovely clean clock in very good condition, and it is sold here with a very low reserve.
