Lovely 19th Cent Oak and Mahogany 8 Day Longcase Clock
Here we have a nice original oak and mahogany longcase clock that dates from around 1830-50. It is by David Lewes of Weymouth, Dorset
It stands on its original shaped plinth and has a mahogany cross banded base. The slim trunk has a lovely shell inlay to the mahogany cross banded door. The hood has slim turned mahogany columns with gilt capitals and nice swan neck pediment with original gilt patria and ball finial.
The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and has an attractive arched dial. It has gilt decoration to the arch and corners and has a subsidiary seconds hand and working date aperture. The hands look original and all match.
The case is in nice un-restored condition. It has the odd minor veneer chip and the inevitable shrinkage crack to the base. Each side at the back are cut outs to fit over the skirting board so the clock sits tight to the wall.
The movement could probably do with a clean some time in the future but is currently in good running order and keeping good time. It is complete with pendulum, weights, bell and a winding key.
The maximum dimensions are:
46cm(18“) wide
210cm(82.5“) high (excluding finial)
23cm(9“) deep
