Description: Live Sphagnum Moss
Environmentally sound 900g
Our Sphagnum moss is harvested from renewable sources in Scotland UK.
This method allows the user to be environmentally conscience, as no Air Miles are involved in obtaining this product.
The photo is of the moss as supplied.
When using moss in the UK, we have found that using native moss is a lot better than imported from countries which have a different climate to ours.
Sphagnum moss is ideal for Hanging baskets as it holds many times its own weight in water.
Pure Sphagnum Moss is also used as a growing medium for Carnivorous plants, orchids etc.
Live Sphagnum moss looks beautiful when encouraged to grow on the top of potted specimens.
When used for hanging baskets, each 12' (30cm) basket would need about 450g of moss.
It turns a bright lush green when kept well.
Nepenthes cuttings root well in the medium as it can hold many times its own volume in water.
Live Sphagnum moss is sterile and was used by the army as a wound cleaner and dressing.
The supplied Sphagnum Moss will be about 900g in weight and squeezed to remove most of the water.
On arrival, if it is not going to be used straight away spread out the moss on a tray of water and keep cool to encourage it to grow.
The new shoots will be bright green and the remaining growth when exposed to sun will soon colour up.
