Lessons For A Sunday Father

Claire Calman

Paperback Fiction Book

Description:

Scott, a glass fitter, finds his life & marriage devastated when his wife Gail discovers his illicit fling with one of his customers (albeit a bit of a flop).

Their kids, Nat coping with teenage years, dropping mugs of tea on the floor as he is growing 'too fast' & Rosie who just wants her Dad back (although a pot of glittering nail polish would probably do), struggle to cope with their parents' separation.

When Scott accidentally smashes a picture of his son (a gift from his estranged wife, saying this is all you're getting of him) he realizes, like his job, he is leaving a trail of shattered glass & shattered lives behind him.

This is a sweet, warm and often gleeful book, combining a tale of Bacardi, nail polish, glass fitting & fatherly love with a wicked sense of humour.

Review:

Following the success of Love is a Four Letter Word, Calman's second novel is a result of (as the foreword of the book claims) many years training as a writer with a 'punishing regime of daydreaming, tea-drinking and eavesdropping.'

Calman wrote the novel after her publisher stood over her with a big stick and told her to get on with it.

In the book trade, this is known as 'cultivating the muse'.

A poet and a broadcaster, Calman's second novel is a fun and light read that successfully packs an emotional punch.

In very good condition, with a starting bid of only 49p this is a bargain for any fiction fan
