Leaded Glass Terrarium rising to Domed Roof
This is a superb example of a terrarium. It's hard to date: the glass is too new to be Victorian, however it looks older than the terrarium revival of the 1960s. Very roughly, it's mid-century. The lead and all glass panes are in perfect condition and it is spotless inside. The shape and lead framing give it great character - it's going to look stunning with ferns or other plants. There is a neat latch also cased in lead to open the window from one side. It has the look and is quality.
Dimensions are 30cm x 30cm x 40cm high into the dome.
There has been a mini terrarium revival in the last few years, even featured in ultra-hip Wallpaper magazine, with terrariums from the likes of New York artist Paula Hayes fetching very crazy money. If any other proof needed, see the interiors at the back of today's Sunday Times (01/11/09) - pride of place to the terrarium!
Collection much preferred. If you really, really want me to post it to you, I can do this at cost, with the postal/courier/level of insurance chosen by you.
Any questions, please email before Friday please. Note: I will contact the winning bidder on Tuesday 10th.
