Large South Seas MOP Inlaid Head Hands Bird. Maori?

This is a large ornamental carved head, inlaid with mother of pearl. Probably South Seas or possibly of Maori origin, it shows a large head above two hands holding a dead bird. The hair appears to be chip carved, and the irregularity of the mother of pearl pieces does indicate it being hand made. It stands 11 inches high, is 6 inches wide and is almost 7 inches deep, so is a large lump of wood and therefore quite heavy (almost 5kg unpacked). Overseas shipping will be expensive and quoted upon request. One tooth is broken, as can be seen, and there is a tight age crack at the front of the head through the hair.
