This is a French Verge Fusee watch with a quarter repeater function and was made circa 1810

 

The watch has a solid 18K gold case, which although has no assay marks has been tested thoroughly and is sold with our usual 100% refund guarantee.

 

The watch is not in working condition. The chain is intact and perfect but the balance swings feebly. The repeater function is working but the chime is tinny as the case is pressing in on the gongs. The case itself also has dent on one side and this is the part which is pressing on the gongs reducing the quality of the chime. The watch is sold “as is” but is a great project as working gold verge quarter repeaters sell for £1000 +.

 

Movement – gilt full plate verge movement has a pierced cock and is in 90% mint condition – a few scratches but please make sure you have read the paragraph above.

 

The repeater function is activated by pressing down on the stem. There are two hammers which strike on the gongs. The hour chime as discussed above is tinny but the quarter chime has a nice clear ring to it.

 

Case – the movement comes in a large 18K gold open face case, which has a gilt inner cover, which is released by pressing down a catch on the side. The cover then springs open to 90 degrees.

The gold case has a hinged back cover and bezel. The case has coin edged sides and a smooth plain finish on the back. The side around the 1 – 2 position has a large dent and this, along with a 1mm split right on the edge of the back cover, prevents the back cover closing firmly. The case has a few minor bruises along the rest of the side and some wear and tear on the back.

 

Dial – the white enamel dial is in 100% mint condition

 

The watch measures 54mm wide x 20mm deep

 

The watch has a Mineral glass – there is a small chip on one edge of the underside of the glass.

 

The watch is key wound / key set and comes with a key.
