The Lansky “Super Sapphire Hone” is mounted on a guide rod, in the same way as any of the other Lansky Hones (see photos).

The overall size of the Super Sapphire Hone is approx 135mm by 20mm by 15mm, and weighs approximately 43 grams.

The Lansky Guided Sharpening System

The Lansky Guided Sharpening Kit is the most effective way to sharpen all of your Sporting, Hobby and Household knives.  The patented Lansky System makes it easy for you to get the consistent angle that you need for a professional edge on every knife, in just 1,2,3, simple steps.

All of the Lansky Sharpening Kit has a “Guided Knife Sharpener” that is clamped onto the back of a knife blade allowing you to precisely direct a sharpening whetstone stone along the blade’s cutting edge, make it possible for you to achieve a very accurate bevel, and therefore an incredible Super Sharp cutting edge on your knife.  With the Lansky “UNIVERSAL” Sharpening Kit you can take any old knife, even Serrated Blades, that is on the verge of being thrown away, and give it new life, easily removing chips and knick on the edge and then restore it to a Super edge.  (See above photos).

Accurate Guided Sharpening

Using guided sharpening, with any of the Lansky Guided Sharpening Kits, will give you precise and consistent bevelled angles, which cannot be achieved by hand-sharpening alone.  These exact angles, when sharpening; produce the ultimate in fast, precise knife edges, which will quickly make your knives sharper than you have ever had them before…Super Sharp!

With any of the Lansky Guided Sharpening Kits any knife edge can be, easily, quickly and consistently sharpened and re-sharpened to an incredibly super sharp cutting edge that is not just be sharp, but “RAZOR-SHARP”!

The Lansky Guided Sharpening Kit guide is quickly and easily attached to the back of a knife, within just a matter of seconds, allowing you to bring back to life, within just a few minutes, any dulled knife blade you wish.

With just a small amount of practice, you can restore, what you thought was just an old and useless knife blade, a knife that you might have be thinking, should be just thrown away, because it is beyond hope of ever being re-sharpened again; these old knives can be re-sharpened, sometimes within minutes, to a perfect Razor-Sharp edge.

Once your blade is sharp your Lansky Guided Sharpening Kit can be stowed away in its tough carrying case within a couple of seconds.

The Lansky Guided Sharpening 110mm (4 inch) Whetstones used in all of the Lansky Guided Sharpening Kits are great for re-shaping, abrading, Lapping, dressing, sharpening and honing a whole host of items and tools such as; CHISELS, MOULDS & DIES, CHIPPED GLASS, CHEF KNIVES, CARVING TOOLS, GOUGES, SCISSORS, WOOD TURNING TOOLS, AWLS, UTILITY KNIFE, PLANE BLADE, SKEWS, WATERSTONES, ROUTER BITS, AXES, BUTCHER KNIFE, FILET KNIFE, BUSHCRAFT KNIVES and SHEARS.

Versatility and Controlled Angles

The Lansky Guided Sharpening System is a very flexible guided sharpening system that offers four variable angles that range from, based on a 1" wide blade, 17 degrees (the shallowest) to 30 degrees (the steepest).  The four angled choices are: 17, 20, 25 and 30 degrees.

17° ANGLE.

A severe angle only recommended for Super, Scalpel and X-Acto® blades or similar tools.  This angle provides an extremely sharp but highly delicate edge.

20° ANGLE.

A commonly used angle for higher grade, quality blades.  This angle provides an excellent edge for these types of knives, and is also Ideal for kitchen knives.

25° ANGLE.

The recommended angle for most knives that need a durable, sharp edge.  This angle is ideal for hunting and outdoor knives.

30° ANGLE.

An outstanding angle for knives that see the heavy use of cutting cardboard, wire or carpets.  This angle is for heavy duty use where the edge will be taking a lot of abuse.

How to Use the Lansky Guided Sharpening System

You should clamp the knife with the Lansky Blade Guide in the centre of the blade for optimum control, when using longer blades.  To sharpen, hold the handle of the knife and rest your fingers on the block of the knife blade.  Slowly draw the knife from the heel of the blade (near the handle) down the Whetstone towards the tip of the blade.

Make sure that the edge of the blade is in contact with the Whetstone during the whole stroke.  This you do by lifting the handle up slightly as you reach the tip of the blade, then turn the knife and blade guide over and repeat the process on the other side of the knife.  (See above Photos).

1)    ATTACHING KNIFE BLADE: Loosen front locking screw of knife clamp with small coin, screwdriver or your fingernail to accommodate thickness of blade.  Attach clamp to back, or spine, of knife blade at the centre of knife blade. Using Coin, or screwdriver, tighten the locking screw to hold knife securely.  Lock blade in place by hand, tightening thumb screw on knife clamp.  NOTE: For very small blades use the notch in knife clamp. Position regular and oversized blades beyond notch and well into knife clamp. (See above diagram.)

2)    ASSEMBLING THE HONE: Place guide rod through hole in hone holder so that rod and holder form a straight line.  Using finger pressure only, tighten the screw on hone holder to hold rod securely.  Check straightness and alignment with hone against a flat surface (e.g. a table or the storage case of this kit) to be sure rod and honing stone touch fl at surface along entire length.  If rod is not level with stone, bend it into alignment using light finger pressure only.

3)    SHARPENING PROCEDURE: Before you begin, please note above photo showing how to hold knife clamp and hone safely.  Beginning with the Coarse stone, apply a few drops of Lansky honing oil along surface of stone and insert guide rod into angle hole you have selected.  The preferred stroke pattern is to start at point A (See above Diagram) and push to B with only enough pressure to make the stone work. Lift the stone and return to C. Hone from C to D and lift to E etc.  Always remember to keep the guide rod at bottom of hole to keep a consistent and accurate angle as you sharpen.  Next turn the knife and clamp over and repeat using the same angle you used on the first side of the blade.  Repeat this process with consecutively finer stones until you achieve the degree of sharpness you are happy with.  Keep stones clean/oiled as you work, and maintain the same sharpening angle throughout the sharpening process.  You will note, as you sharpen, that the stones will begin to move smoothly.  This indicates pores of the stones may be clogging with filings, which reduces effectiveness of the stone.  You can prevent this by occasionally wiping the stones with a rag and always when through sharpening.  This is the only cleaning necessary.

Lansky and the Outdoor Enthusiast

Enthusiasts worldwide use the Lansky products to care for their cutting edges.  Just as essential as your pocketknife, Lansky Sharpeners are lightweight, easy to carry and durable.  They withstand harsh environments and sharpen all kinds of knives, tools and edged equipment that hunters, hikers, rock climbers, adventurers, campers and sportsman rely on to survive and enjoy the outdoors.

  • Out in the field, or back at camp, Lansky Guided Sharpening products are an outdoor essential.  A dull cutting edge is a dangerous cutting edge.
  • In addition to sharpening hunting and pocketknives, Lansky products are popular for sharpening a wide range of household knives and tools such as kitchen knives, pruning shears, axes, scissors, chisels, router bits, utility blades etc.

Lansky in the Kitchen

Lansky Sharpeners will quickly sharpen your stainless steel or carbon steel kitchen cutlery while removing a minimum of material from the blade - unlike electric sharpeners.

Manual sharpening with Lansky products is fast, easy and versatile.  Whether you have a common chef's knife, a Japanese Sashimi knife or even a steep-angled meat cleaver, Lansky can do it all.

Each time you sharpen with the Lansky Guided Sharpening System you are only removing, a very small amount of steel thus keeping the edge of the knife thin and the angle maintained.

Many chefs and home cooks prefer to use the Lansky Guided Sharpening System to sharpen their favourite knife.
