What is this listing for?
A brand new Piper (RPi Engineering inspired) upgrade Camshaft, (Camshaft Only).
Suitable for all Rover V8 engines that have an ignition distributor, thats TVR's, Morgans, MGs, Range Rover Classics and Land Rover Discovery Series I and many many kit cars alike.
Will this Camshaft fit my engine?
This Camshaft is designed for all Rover V8s pre 1993 (non Serpentine type). and vehicles post 1993 (Serpentine) but not Gems Engine Management vehicles. This cam is suitable for Cars with a distributor.
Camshaft Choice ? (Appropriate applications).
The first thing you must establish in this listing is that your type of Rover V8 engine is the style with a distributor. The only choice thereafter is with the subtle variants of cam we offer below. None of which would be the wrong choice, but alternatives suggested for your best consideration and befitting your individual engine & the vehicle's status.
Cam shafts and their uses
Piper Torque-Max.
Offers spot on Cam profiling for all 4wd (Land Rover, Range Rover) or heavier saloon car applications that have no, or only milder upgrades to their cylinder heads. This cam is specifically targeting lower rpm torque increases with improved throttle response plus usable extra mid-range power & efficiency. Designed to improve pulling under load as well as for providing enhanced and safer overtaking power when needed, thus providing the performance gains that most of us realistically need - at this level at least.
Piper 270-Stealth.
If you have already upgraded your cylinder heads to Stage 1 level or beyond and have perhaps also improved the intake systems integrity with at least Carbon fibre intake trumpets. Then the 270-stealth Cam will be the better option for you because this Cam offers all of the advantages of the Torque-Max but can extend its gains further up the rev. range of your engine. You would benefit from this cam only if these upgrades as a minimum, are employed.
Piper 285 Stealth-max
The stealth Max is a bespoke Cam (costing no more) But all are individually profiled to be our ultimate street stage 3 Cam and is only a worthwhile choice if yet further upgrades to your existing heads and your injection systems hardware are employed. Such enhancements would be those that go beyond what is described as being required for the 270-Stealth Cam as listed above. If this 285 Cam is right for your individual engine then you can expect amazing extended power gains not des-similar to those as described already but up to and beyond 6000rpm and still with no need to fit heavy duty valve springs or fly cut pistons. Indeed our renown 285 Cam, as fitted in our own 4.6 Morgan pulls fifth gear from a standstill to 158mph in just one gear..... 5th. !!!

It's been many years now since we approached 'Piper' with our original tentative request for a large quantity and continuous supply of fast-road, high-torque & power efficient replacement V8 camshafts. Little did we know at the time just how many we would eventually end up needing, what's more we have had no issues at all, that I recall.
It comes then as no surprise to me to see, (18 years later) that the secret of Piper's success and worldwide renown is undoubtedly with their unique ability to recognise exactly what you need. Then to draw on their vast experience of Camshaft profiling to provide the required results. In our case, targeting & emphasizing cam profiling to deliver ultimate efficiency for all Rover V8 Street cars, 4WD's and Race car power too; as well as for stock upgrades and std. rebuilds.

We have sold, supplied, used & employed in excess of 3000 (three thousand) Piper 'Blueprint Camshafts' over the past 18 years. Reliability is and remains unquestionable as is the realistically described performance gains too.
With the camshaft profiling knowledge of Piper Cams coupled with the unique understanding of Rover V8 engines we possess, its easy to see why we continue to achieve acclaimed results time after time from such a unique combination.
What additional upgrades are required for installation of these Cam's?
None of our Piper cams offered here, should require any changing/upgrading of valve springs nor any other otherwise essential upgrades or machining at all. However it is always worthwhile considering the suitability of re-using any at all of your original engines parts that have association to the camshaft area.
This and the following information/advice is also correct and appropriate for consideration even for std camshaft replacements.
Some things to remember
Never re-use your original tappets, and, we only use genuine replacements
Timing chains are normally badly stretched and always need replacing.
Push rods are cheap and should be replaced if at all worn
Rockers and rocker shafts should be checked for wear underneath & signs of breakages to rocker pads, again only genuine is a suitable option for replacement.
Shim Kits are available to check and set Tappet pre-load & are an essential consideration for all Camshaft replacements or work involving valves or rocker assemblies.
All RPi designed Piper Cams will give smog/MOT/TUV-free emissions and smooth idle. With Piper's profile reliability. Suitable even for Californian style stringent emission requirements

Fees
UK Value Added Tax is included in the final price of the Item(s) purchased; however, if you reside outside the EEC, and your purchase is exported directly outside the EEC, then you will not be liable for EEC VAT at 17.5%. Thus this excess charge will be deducted from your parts total by dividing your purchase total price by 1.175 to remove the VAT.
Also, if you are within the EEC VAT scheme, and provide your EEC VAT registration number, then the same reduction in purchase total may apply.
Local import duties are not covered in our quotes and we advise that you check such liabilities before you place your bid if you are unsure.

Shipping
