The Automobile.
February 1993.
The Automobile is a United Kingdom publication that focuses on the hobby and use side of classic car ownership for pre- 1950's vehicles. As such you do not for the main part get long articles on stripping down brakes, fitting wide tyres or bodywork modifications that you tend to in the modern magazines. You do get restoration stories, but the main focus is on using cars, manufacturer history, or even the designers, racers or industrialists involved in the general car world. The articles are well written and interesting, plus the photographs are not as arty as some of the magazines tend to be - here you can actually recognise the cars!
This particular issue, for your interest and enjoyment, has articles on:
- 1937 Lagonda LG6.
- 1921 Pierce-Arrow.
- Chitty Chitty Bang Bang II.
- 1927 Salmson.
- Metallurgique history.
...and don't forget the period advertisements and classified section. Often this part of the magazine is worth the cover price alone!
Note that I have over 1,000 magazines listed in my eBay shop. To find these, click on the shop icon. Then, in the little search box down to the left simply type in the detail you are interested in. Manufacturer, car, person, event or even car registration number - be creative!

Please note that these are all my own magazines that I have collected over the years. I buy around 20 a month, and have done so for almost 30 decades. In addition I also bulk buy at car boot sales, so I've thousands upon thousands of magazines in the house. All I'm doing now is thinning my collection down a little. Hence all of the magazines are in used, but good condition. I run older cars as a hobby, and from time-to-time buy a motorbike for fun. My last bike was a new Suzuki Bandit 600 that I put 50,000 miles on in under 5 years. At the moment my car is an old Volvo - cheaper than the train!
Post: I try and be as fair as possible with postage rates. But these days postage outside of Europe is very high, so I cannot do anything to cheapen these rates unfortunately. Most of my magazines go out double wrapped for protection, so they arrive in good condition. If you want to buy more than one, feel free - but ignore the auto-invoice as I will combine shipping for all multiple purchases.
I do not accept IBAN / International Bank Transfer as a means of payment. And, I hate to say this, but for German buyers I will block all e-mails that originate outside of eBay - I do not like the spam e-mails that follow on! |
