This Lacanche GR2 ridged griddle plate retails for £179.00 from John Lewis. It is made from cast iron and sits over a pair of gas burners, letting you cook fish, meat and vegetables rapidly, with a minimum of fat.

By using one burner at maximum and the other at minimum, it is possible to create a graded heat enabling large pieces to be seared on the hotter end and then cooked through on the cooler part.
