A 2 in 1 DVD containing adult themes of Homosexuality featuring two Bruce Labruce films: Super 8 1/2 and No Skin off My Ass. Firstly Super 8 1/2 - like the Fellini masterpiece "8 1/2," which it parodies, is the semi-autobiographical story of a film maker in the throes of creative crisis. In this case, the protagonist isn't a world-famous Italian director but a self-destructive gay punk porn star and film maker who may have contracted AIDS and who is abandoned by his street-hustling boyfriend, Pierce (Klaus Von Brucker). Documenting his deterioration is a rival director named Googie (Stacy Friedrich), who specializes in lesbian porn. Periodically "Super 8 1/2" forgets about Bruce to follow the adventures of Googie's outrageous new stars, the Friday Sisters (Ms. Friedrich and Christine Martin). In one of their cinematic romps, they play sex terrorists who pick up straight male hitchhikers with ponytails, sexually molest them at gunpoint and take their hair as a trophy. An the second fils is No Skin Off My Ass. This is a wryly humorous, adult love story which borrows its basic plot from "That Cold Day In The Park". Bruce La Bruce puts in a fine performance as a hairdresser with a skinhead fetish. He comes across a skinhead in a park (played by the very cute Klaus von Brucker) and invites this seemingly mute fellow back to his apartment. The story circles around the hairdresser and his obsession with the skinhead (and skinhead culture). Along side this main story is the skinhead's sister (played by Gloria Jones) who's making a film about feminist revolutionaries...more-or-less. Throw into this a great soundtrack (including Operation Ivy and Fifth Column), a truly bizarre apartment (just where did that pool/grotto come from?) and some Very Explicit Adult Content (yow!) and you've got something that defies easy classification. Occassionaly slow, but always interesting, it's definitely worth checking out.
