"Night Shift," a collection of steam locomotive recordings from the Australian Railway Historical Society. Atmospheric and unique. Good for sampling or historical interest. ARHS 302-AWA Used, in excellent condition. Your purchase benefits Oxfam. Description of the first track: 5711 - MAIN SOUTHERN LINE: With the advent of electric traction on the Western main line out of Sydney, 5711, the last three-cylinder locomotive in Australasia, spent much of its latter days working on the hevaily-graded South line. This sequence provides an impressive record of the locomotive starting a heavy goods train from rest. In the station yard, several blasts from diesel sirens precede the "right-away" whistle from 5711, which advances toward the microphone with a "cock-a-doodle-doo." The distinctive three-cylinder exhaust is apparent all through the sequence. After the trucks have rumbled past, the sharp pant of the Westinghouse airbrake compressor mingles with it, as the locomotive blasts its way into the distance up a rising gradient. |
