LOVELY ART NOUVEAU
NORITAKE
CUP & SAUCER EARLY 1900s
The blue mark on this cup & saucer shows the 'Komaru' symbol crowned with 'Notitake' and below the mark 'Made in Japan'.
This mark was registered in London for the UK market in 1908 and in Japan three years later and is thought to be specific for export pieces to the UK.
The centre symbol is said to be taken from the Japanese character 'Komaru' meaning 'overcoming difficulties' and also known as the 'tree crest mark', which is also the crest of the Morimura family, which made Noritake.
The cup & saucer are in good condition, no cracks or crazing, a couple of very minor bleamishes (tiny white spots), but you would have to look hard to notice them.
