Elgin was founded in 1864, right as the American civil war was coming to an end. The first watch Elgin made, an 18 sized B W Raymond railroad grade watch, was finished in 1867 and over the next 100 years, they went on to produce about 60 million watches.

 

Elgin produced their first wristwatch in 1910, leading most other American watch companies by many years. The flag ship models for eldin were the Lord Elgin and Lady Elgin range which were produced to a very high standard and aimed at the higher end of the market.  Along with Bulova, Hamilton and Gruen, Elgin went on to make some superb Watches right through to the 1967 where the company, like so many other quality watchmakers, was forced to sell up and split its assets due to cheap "throw away" imported quartz watches starting to flood the market.

 

It is not often you can see cherished items increasing in value , Classic vintage watches have become very fashionable and collectable,The obviouse names such as Cartier.Patek Phillipe, Bulova, etc.are fetching well over 3 times the price from a yeat ago.

These watches in collectable condition are dissapearing from the market place.................
