Reviews Craig Busch, AKA the Lion Man! Craig loves lions so much he is creating the Zion Wildlife Gardens as a paradise for his feline friends, who include 14 Barbary Lions, seven Royal White Bengal Tigers, four Bengal Tigers and four extremely rare White Lions. But this is not all happening in the African Bush as you might have suspected, this is all taking place in New Zealand! Series 1 follows the joys and frustrations of Craig and his partner Karen, as they rear and interact with the cats in a very up close and personal manner. Craig is genuinely gifted with these incredible creatures and he s creating a sanctuary for them where they are stimulated and happy. There are triumphs and disasters, laughter and tears as the park gradually expands, and more animals find a haven. Series 2 of The Lion Man follows the exciting developments at the park, as Zion Wildlife Park moves into stage 2 of its expansion plans. With the park now closed major construction work is underway to provide the animals with amazing new enclosures. Along the way we also follow Craig on his adventures. He travels to South Africa to sort through the red tape to enable him to bring the first ever White Lion to New Zealand. We follow him to Queenstown where he shoots an amazing international commercial with a young lion. We also tag along with Craig as he visits one of the most spiritual big cat havens in the World, a monastery in Thailand where monks live in harmony with tigers.
Synopsis Craig Busch is the LIONMAN, dedicating his life to the creation of the Zion Wildlife Gardens in New Zealand, where Craig and his partner Karen rear and interact with big cats. The Gardens is home to 14 Barbary Lions, seven Royal White Bengal Tigers, four Bengal Tigers and four rare White Lions; and thanks to this wonderful series you can get up close to these magnificent big cats too. Series two follows the Gardens' expansion and the subsequent disruption caused, in addition to following Craig on his adventures in South Africa and Thailand.

Lionman -lion and man become one First off, great DVD, I loved it a lot. I've watched the lionman on TV and it's a great effort to conserve these great animals.
Secondly, to CRYPTORESEARCHER
You raised a few points in your review which I'm going to respond to because I feel you've been unjustified in your scoring (which, I noticed, you copied and pasted your review into season 1 and 2 AND 3 of this show, which basically proves that you didn't buy this DVD. At least watch the thing before reviewing it!)
Anyway, you made the following points:
You said Craig no longer works at the zoo because of his behaviour. Wrong. Actually, there was a dispute involving his mother who consequently sacked him. Also, the park has been closed BECAUSE of the fact that because he'd been sacked, he was no longer there to take care of the animals - and one of the lions (called Abu) mauled and killed one of the park's staff. This happened because the lionman wasn't there to prevent it. You can see his interview on youtube, in which he states that after he was sacked, proper safety precautions were not taken.
'The whole collection has been misrepresented with white tigers called a rare species-they are nothing of the sort-they are a very inbred colour morph of the Indian Tiger sub-species which came from one wild-caught white tiger who was mated with his own daughter. These animals SHOULD NOT EXIST!'
You can't insinuate that Mr Busch is the reason these animals exist! The fact is, they existed way before the Lionman ever existed and whether you like it or not, are now a species. (Being a believer in God, and having the belief that nothing can live without God's permission, I also believe that these tigers were supposed to exist). If I was on TV and explaining about tigers to a population which probably doesn't know a whole lot about genetics and breeding, I would also say they're a proper species.
'His horrible behaviour to remove new-born cubs from their parents and hand-rear them so they can basically be kept as performing animals is appalling.'
Firstly, the park isn't a circus - none of the cats have been made to 'perform' as you call it. Secondly, as you can clearly see from the series (had you watched them, which you probably haven't) you'd find that mothers and children are kept in the same place, allowing them to bond.
It has now come out that all the big cats have been declawed which actually involves removing the 1st joint of the toe and is extremely painful, leading to early arthritis and other problems.
He isn't running a circus is he? When has he made the lions 'perform' for anyone? These are big cats which he is trying to conserve, cats which could easily kill any of the people looking after them.
'Ever wonder why his girlfriend suddenly left? He beat her up and put her in hospital!'
You should check your facts before posting anything. Mr Busch came home to find his girlfriend in bed with another couple - involved in a threesome. If he HAD tried to kill her, he would be in prison right now. He was furious, angry - understandably so, and hit out at her. Of course, you're putting the 'abuse' angle on the situation, a situation in which any man or woman would go ballistic. We're all animals in our core nature.
Fabulous Having watched snippets on TV I haven't been disappointed with series 1 and 2 which chronicles the Zion Wildlife Park in New Zealand. Craig is to be commended for his devotion to the cause of saving endangered lions and tigers and bringing an awareness to everyone, from the visitors to the park to the world-wide TV audience. It is marvellous to watch the interaction with him and his "babies" whom, he says, look upon him as "Dad" whilst remembering that these animals are potential killers. To see the park being developed and expanded, Craig's trips to Africa, securing a deal to bring the first white lion to New Zealand, and the highs and lows that are part of it is truly amazing.
Amazing!!!!!!! I got this boxset for my partner as we started watching it on sky one and he loves it, in fact we both do! Its amazing to watch Craig in action and how he maintains and grows relationships with the cubs and lions. Its also great to see how they are trying to breed the lions and tigers an example of that are the bengal white tigers. This is a must for an wildlife, animal, lion or tiger lover. You grow attached to the them as you watch the 2 series and it can sometimes be very emotional. I cant wait to see series 3!!
LionMan This series is the best 'Man - Lion' relationship story you will ever watch. There has been nothing like it since its release in 2004.LionMan - Series 1 and 2 [8 Disc Box Set] [2004] [DVD]
Lion Man This box set of DVD's was a delight. It was strange that it did not have the same voice-over than on Sky TV, but you soon got used to that. I enjoyed watching the whole collection as I did not manage to catch them all in the proper sequence on TV. I hope that Series 3 is soon available to buy in order to seen more of the ongoing story.
DVDs contain Regional Codes which can
be used to prevent the playback of certain discs depending upon the geographical
area it is played in. The various studios and home video companies lobbied to make
sure this coding system was a required part of the current DVD standards, because
they wish to control how their DVD titles are exported to other countries. (For
example, while a recent film may already have played theatrically in the United
States and been released to the home video market, that same film may not yet have
opened in some European or Asian countries.) In most instances, discs manufactured
in one region will usually only play on players that were manufactured for that
same region - this means that discs bought or imported from Japan will not play
on U.S. players, and vice versa.
Some DVDs, however, are coded for Region 0 - which means they will play in any of
the six regular regions. There are also DVD players that don't check the region
coding of the DVD so will play any disc from any region - these are generally referred
to as Code Free players or Multi Region DVD Players.
