LG U400 Slide Phone on 3 Network

This is an auction for my used LG U400, some minor blemishes from use but otherwise fully functional with excellent battery life

The LG U400, nicknamed the Neo, is a 3G music phone available exclusively on the 3 network. The U400 has an unusual and distinctive slide design. Despite a smart black and silver finish, and cool blue detailing, it's an ugly beast, mainly because of the large jog wheel located off-centre, with call buttons to the side. The jog wheel is very useful, however, enabling control of the music functions when the phone is closed. With a chunky feel and uncompromising looks, this is a phone with a very masculine style.

Music is the big theme of the U400. The phone comes with a stereo music player (and video player) with high audio quality. The music player can handle most formats of music, including MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+. The jog wheel lets you access music very easily, much like an iPod. Stereo headphones are supplied in the sales package, and the phone offers support for Bluetooth stereo headphones. Music can be stored on the phone, using the 68 Mbytes of internal memory plus the MicroSD memory card slot for extra storage (memory card not supplied), or can be streamed from 3. It would have been nice to have an FM radio included though.

The U400 also has a special DJ feature. Move the jog wheel to start scratching or press a number on the keypad to play a cool sample! Use the Melody Composer to make your own music. The Melody Composer lets you choose from 10 different instruments, 2 modes, 31 styles and 5 tempos to make your own music tracks. Play them to your mates or use them as ringtones!

The U400 has two cameras - a VGA camera (0.3 megapixels) for making video calls, and a 2 megapixel camera (with flash) for taking still shots. You can also record video clips. The camera quality is not that great, proving the point that megapixels alone are no measure of camera quality.

Music is the big "thing" for the U400 and it delivers well. Combining the music-orientated design of the U400 with 3's music download features makes for a great overall music experience, despite the lack of an FM radio. The Neo also covers the bases in other areas, making it a well-rounded phone. Battery life could be better, but is adequate. The design is unusual and won't be to everyone's taste, but if you're a music lover looking for something that stands out from the crowd, this could be your phone. We'd have to say though that it's very expensive for what you get.
