Let Them Eat Coal - The Political Use of Social Security during the Miners Strike, by Lesley Sutcliffe and Brian Hill Published by Canary Press in 1985, 55 pages. (N3272) From the rear side cover: This book explains the political and legislative background to the present governments policies on welfare benefits. It centres upon the treatment which striking miners have received at the hands of the DHSS and is based upon information received from welfare rights workers throughout the country, together with first hand accounts and interviews with striking miners and their families. The book explains how the Tory government have used benefits politically in an attempt to break the NUM and starve miners and their families back to work Condition of the booklet is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs but is clean and tidy, the spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
We take great care in packaging our books - first your booklet will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your booklet in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
