The author and Leroy Neiman talk specifically about this piece, which I personally found interesting. The book states, “Singles Tennis, 1971 illustrates the compositional interplay between figure and ground and positive and negative shapes in Neiman’s painting. Put simply, the blue, green and yellow ground takes on such dynamism and energy that it almost overpowers the two foreground figures. The ground colors become positive shapes and human forms blend into the background. It is the imposition of the viewer’s intellect that pulls the figures together and posits them as the centers of action. It takes considerable visual and mental energy to hold them in place and together, and as soon as we “let go”, the figures fall into the field becoming dynamic members of the interrelated composition. Color plays a major role, both expressive and structural, in Neiman’s works.”
Neiman's art has been exhibited in major museums around the world, and his works are found in some of the most prestigious public and private collections worldwide. Please e-mail if you have any further questions. This item will be crated to ship domestically or internationally.
