This large chest of drawers dates from 1880 it has been stripped and hand waxed.
This a good sound pine chest, the five drawer version like this one is becoming a lot less common these days, probably because it gives so much storage for the space it takes up, the bottom drawer is over 12”deep and is ideal for storing bed linen .
The chest has two short drawers at the top and three longer graduated drawers beneath, the drawers have, brass escutcheons and locks also turned wooden knobs though these are not the originals but they have been on the chest for quite some time
The chest has a prominent moulded edge around the top and a similar moulding at the base.
This very attractive and sturdy chest of drawers it has a country look to it, the pine has evidence of slight shrinkage as the wood has dried over the years which adds to the appearance and all the drawers run well
The chest has developed its own unique character and appearance over the years it has the usual signs of use otherwise the chest is very sound there are no creaks, all this said please remember that this is a piece of antique furniture, it may not be quite perfect and may have marks, and defects normally associated with furniture of this age there are no signs of woodworm past or present
I think that this Large chest would be a wonderful addition to any antique bed room design but it also has that simple stand alone quality so sought after these days by our friends the interior designers.
The chest stands 40’’ high, 20’’ deep and is 43’’ long
