So this fixed price auction is for the installation of a

Land Rover 200TDi engine including all ancillaries. 

The install, amoungst a lot more, includes for a new clutch, new timing belt, new TIM temperature gauge (if necessary) and all new filters, oil, antifreeze etc

We begin by generally inspecting your Land Rover to ensure that it’s worth while undertaking the conversion work – on occasion vehicles arrive with us requiring far more than a new engine!  And sometimes its just not economical to spend £2000+  – so the first thing that happens is that you get an honest appraisal of whether its worth making the investment in one of our conversions – and certainly it IS an investment as not only will the TDi unit give you better FUEL consumption but it will also, typically be much cheaper to run and maintain than the engine we are removing – the other thing to consider is the value that one of our engine conversions will put upon your Landy – the difference between a Land Rover fitted with a smokey old Turbo Diesel unit and a professionally installed 200TDi is significant.

The other thing to consider is that the conversion includes for a brand new timing belt (and tensioner) a brand new 4 part clutch and a full service – this work alone is worth more than a £1000 !!

We source our engines from Discovery’s – they have usually done between 100 and 150 thousand miles. 

The 200TDi engine is, in our experience, incredibly reliable, our own loan vehicles are 200tdi Discovery’s both of which have traveled in excess of 250,000 miles on their original engines!!!

All of our work and engines are warranted for 6000 miles or 3 months – although we do ask that you try and return within a couple of thousand miles for an inspection.  We have many, many satisfied customers who are happy to give testimony to the quality and reliability of our engine conversions – please contact us if you would like to speak with some of them.

Often we are asked whether we would recommend a 200 or 300 engine – our answer is that if we were to take a Defender around the world it would be equipped with a 200 TDi.  They are strong, powerful and simple.

The other advantage with the 200 is that it will bolt straight onto your existing gearbox.

So the process obviously begins with us removing your old engine – this can be set aside for you to take home or simply stripped down for any salvageable and reusable parts for you.  (Your old engine will have some value one way or another – as a minimum we will give you £50 scrap value for it!)

Once your engine is out we will power wash your engine bay, bulkhead and chassis rails etc.  This is often a good opportunity to repair or repaint your bulkhead should this be necessary or required.  The truck in the pictures was being painted Satin Black, by us, once the engine works were completed so we obviously painted the bulkhead to match. 

Next we wax-oil all exposed areas of your chassis, within the engine bay, again it obviously makes sense to do this whilst the engine is out as you wouldn’t normally have this level of access.

There is only one modification to make within the engine bay and that is to the height of your radiator mounts – we lower them by c. 10mm to ensure that your new radiator / intercooler package sits flush.

Before the 200 TDi is installed we replace the; clutch, front and rear crank oil seals and flywheel housing gasket.  We also replace the timing belt and timing belt tensioner and all associated water pump, timing case gaskets. 

We now fit a new, purpose made, exhaust manifold downpipe …

The engine is then ready to install.

Once the engines in place all water, oil, steering and electrical connections are made.  All ancillaries and consumable parts are thoroughly inspected and tested prior to use.  (More often than not we will fit a new radiator). 

Valve clearances are now reset, the rocker cover gasket is replaced.  Oil and filter are changed, coolant/antifreeze filled, and fuel filter, air filter replaced.

The engine is then washed down so as to be free of any residual oil, grease and debris.  This is so as we can readily detect any fresh oil leakage from any point.

We fit a new TIM temperature gauge on most conversions in order that you get a perfectly accurate engine temperature reading.  (Your old gauge is obviuosly calibrated for your old engine).

The engine is then started and test run at various intervals over a consecutive couple of days – with checks made for leakage or any faults each time.

Once we are fully satisfied that the engine is performing satisfactorily – we will contact you to make arrangements for collection or delivery back to you.
