LAND ROVER 110 Van early Defender

 Hello there and welcome to my auction of a Land Rover 110 van. The vehicle originaly belonged to Cardiff NHS Trust and was used in mantaining the hospital gardens, from the looks of it had a very easy life and was very well maintained. When I bought it, the gearbox was broken, I think that repair must have been deemed too expensive for them, especialy for a 25 year old vehicle. I changed the box and put new floors in both front footwells and it sailed through it's MOT. My plan was to sell it when I finished it but I have been enjoying it for a little while, but I have now got a van so it needs to go.

Bodywork/Chassis; This is in good solid condition, it has been Ziebart waxed (like waxoyl) from new. This has saved it from the dredded chassis rot, it would be a good for it to be done again for the next 25 years. Its got a towbar and electrics. Most of the panels have scrapes and small dents, distress marks like your favorite pair of jeans :)

Engine/gearbox; The 2 1/4 petrol engine has 73000 miles on it, and is good condition apart from an oil leak, and is unbelievably smooth. It starts first time and pulls well. There is some times a puff of oil smoke on start-up but this is the valve stem seals, it clears immediatly and it passed a emmisions test for a newer car at the MOT. I think there must be a worn tooth on the flywheel ring gear as the starter misses on the odd occaision (about 1 in 25).The gearbox is great, 5 speed, hi and low range and diff lock, all gears select smoothly when warm, but it is best to give second gear a miss for the first mile.

Running Gear; The suspension has been lifted by two inches, this has not comprimised the on road performance too badly as all the bushes are in excellent condition. The brakes work as they should.

Wheels and Tyres; Standard Land rover steel wheels, which are a little rusty, shod with aggressive Deestone tyres 7.50x16. The tyres are a little noisy on longer journeys on the road.

Interior; The seats look as though they have lost a fight with a chainsaw in places!! But the foam is ok and replacement covers are available. Apart from that its all standard stuff, everything works and nothing is missing.

The general condition of this is very good for a 25 year old work horse, I have used it every day without any problems but please remember that it is 25 years old. It is a great talking point and other Land Rover pilots give you a wave which makes me laugh. The spares are cheap and they are easy to work on with a great online comunity if you get stuck!!
