LAICA 6 PACK CLASSIC UNIVERSAL WATER FILTER CARTRIDGES CARTRIDGES FIT BRITA, KENWOOD & MOST OTHER JUG WATER FILTERS THAT USE THE CLASSIC CARTRIDGE This quality Italian produced universal cartridge has been sold successfuly in Europe for many years and has received approval certificates from International Test Laboratories including LGA & TÜV in Germany (see the logos under product images). LAICA Classic Universal Cartridge The cartridge contains 2 very highly tested food grade materials - activated carbon and ion-exchange resin which are very effective in reducing undesirable substances in tap water. (See image) The result is greatly improved appearance and taste of tea, coffe, cold drinks etc.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION Tap water is safe to drink because it is regulated and controlled by the local water authorities. Nevertheless pipelines, some of which are old and obsolete, may release undesirable substances. These, together with the chlorine, which prevents bacteria growth, may affect the appearance and taste of the tap water. Filtered water using a jug and cartridge system has been drunk daily in Europe for more than 30 years, by approximately 50 million people. The most practical and cost effective way to filter water and reduce limescale, chlorine, lead, zinc, copper, some pesticides and herbicides, whilst maintaining the essential elements such as calcium and magnesium, giving water an excellent taste and appearance is to use a LAICA water filter cartridge. Why choose a LAICA Water Filter Cartridge? CONVENIENCE - Water always available, no need to carry heavy bottles. COST EFFECTIVE - The water filtered using LAICA cartridges costs only a few cents/pence per litre. TASTE - Water filters greatly improve the appearance and taste of water e.g. hot & cold drinks and food preparation. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY - A water filter helps the environment as it reduces pollution i.e. transportation and the disposal of empty plastic bottles. Frequently asked questions about water filtration What does the cartridge do? The cartridge is the key part to the water filter system. Tap water is safe to drink, however taste and appearance varies greatly, depending on local water quality. By using the LAICA water filter system, undesirable substances are significantly reduced, enhancing the enjoyment of great tasting water. Why does the cartridge have an expiry date? Because the ion-exchange resins and the activated carbons become saturated, the efficiency of filtration decreases and eventually become inactive. When should the cartridge be changed? The life of the cartridge depends on the quality of local tap water. Laboratory tests have shown that the life of the cartridge is effective for approximately 150 litres or 30 days. LAICA’s water filters use cartridge life indicators to remind the user when to change the cartridge to ensure optimum performance. Does the cartridge remove any essential minerals? No, the cartridge only eliminates the temporary hardness (limescale). It does not remove all the minerals in water. In any case, as mineral salts in water are negligible it will not affect a healthy person’s daily requirement. What is the hardness in water and why does hardness reduction not affect the necessary minerals required for a balanced diet? Water has two types of hardness, temporary hardness and permanent hardness. It is the temporary hardness (limescale) that affects the taste and appearance of water and causes scale build up in kettles, coffee makers etc. Permanent hardness contains the essential minerals and trace elements needed from a health point of view. The cartridge only reduces the temporary hardness in tap water. How is the cartridge hygienically protected? The activated carbon in the cartridge is impregnated with a small amount of silver. This prevents any bacteria growth for the life of the cartridge (150 litres or 30 days). Why it is advisable to keep the jug in the fridge either during its use or if it is not being used for some time, after the cartridge had been opened? Like most liquids and solid foods, it is advisable to keep water in the fridge. Milk, juices or bottled water are commonly kept in the fridge, once opened, to maintain quality and freshness. Why is it important that only tap water is used in water filter systems? Water filter systems do not completely eliminate all bacteria and toxins (such as salmonella) that can be found in non drinkable water. Only municipally treated tap water (which is controlled and regulated as safe to drink) must be used in the water filter systems. Why are the cartridges sterilised? The cartridges are sterilised to guarantee that the sealed product is completely bacteria free, and to ensure maximum hygiene. Why is it necessary to reduce the heavy metals present in the water? When water passes through metal piping, some heavy metals such as lead, copper, zinc etc can be transferred to the water. Wide scientific documentation and literature exists which proves toxicity of heavy metals, so it is better if these undesirable substances are kept to a minimum. Why is tap water chlorinated? Chlorine is a disinfectant commonly added to tap water to make it safe to drink, as it kills any bacteria or virus that may be present. The activated carbon in the cartridge significantly reduces chlorine which impairs taste and smell. Why are certificates, HACCP, batch number, sterilisation and instruction manuals important? The cartridge is a technical product, using food grade materials; therefore we must comply with all the standards required, including batch traceability and sterilisation. The certificates are necessary so the products can be legally distributed, complying with the standards imposed by EU Directives. What is Ion Exchange Resin? Ion exchange resin is a food grade material used in cartridges. Resin molecules and some ions in the water react to reduce the temporary hardness which causes limescale that in turn affects water quality and also leads to scale build up in household appliances. Heavy metals are also significantly reduced such as, lead, copper and aluminium. Please let me know if you have any questions or need anymore information.
