Lady Frances Carr 1591-1632, daughter of Lord Thomas Howard, then Countess of Essex, later Countess of Somerset, an English noblewoman, the central figure in a famous scandal and murder during the reign of King James I. She was sentenced to death for her part in the murder of Sir Thomas Overbury while he was imprisoned in the Tower Of London, four others were executed, she was pardoned.
This original engraving is dated 1800.
