Lady Anne Clifford 1590-1676, Countess of Pembroke, Dorset and Montgomery, owner of vast estates including five castles, Skipton, Appleby, Brough, Brougham and Pendragon, in Westmoreland and Yorkshire. She left one of the most extensive autobiographical records of the 17th century including a memoir of the year 1603, a diary for the years 1616, 1617 and 1619, an autobiography dated 1653 and biographies of her ancestors from the 12th to the 16th centuries. This original undated 18th century engraving states: Published by W Richardson Castle Street Leicester Fields. William Richardson was a book-dealer, print-seller and auctioneer who worked from this London address between 1795 and 1797.
