There are no "regular" editions of these albums in print at the moment, either. This debut album from the original lineup of Conrad Schnitzler, Dieter Moebius and Hans Roedelius was a huge innovation at the time of it's release and still stands as a milestone of electronic music. Klopfzeichen contains two beatless ambient pieces, and it is stunning to think how ahead of its time this album was. It came out in 1969, providing a base for all krautrock and electronic music that was to follow. Back then, after forming Tangerine Dream and recording the debut Electronic Meditation, Conrad Schnitzler was out to create another project. He had been an active participant in the Berlin avant garde scene of that time and through it, he met Moebius and Roedelius with whom he formed Kluster in 1969.
Overall, an excellent album with incredible historical significance. It's not as good as the first two albums by Cluster(Moebius and Rodelius without Schnitzler) but it's not much worse either. It's much more than background music: I can listen to the whole thing without getting bored unlike the likes of Jarre and Kraftwerk. This is challenging, complex music. It might not be for everyone but all fans of prog electronic and krautrock should check out this piece of history!
