Here is a reprinted plan made available from the archive of a collective of fellow aero-modelling enthusiasts. The archive contains older and hard to find RC and free flight model plans as well as rare, or out of production, kit plans.

Here is your chance to bid on a reprint of the building plans from the original, classic, “Keil Kraft” Outlaw. This 45” wingspan model was designed as a single-channel sport and trainer model in the sixties. It remained a popular kit in the Keil Kraft range, with several examples being built with 3-channel Rudder, Elevator and Engine control. You could add ailerons, but there is little benefit given the simple wing section, and it makes a great rudder/elevator model when built as per the plan.

The recommended engine range was 0.09 – 0,15cu in (1.5 - 2.5cc) two-stroke glow. It would also make a good electric conversion (Good quality brushed, or brushless motor on 7-10cell Ni-Cad/Ni-Mh or 3s Li-Po)

Keil Kraft claimed that the ‘Outlaw gets away with murder !’ (They said that, given sufficient height, if you get into difficulties with the Outlaw – just release the controls and it will stabilise itself and revert to straight and level flight). A bold claim, and one that may test your eyesight ! … but the Outlaw is stable !

This plan is of good quality with crisp black print on white paper on a large sheet (Approximately 28* x 37”).

The fuselage has a simple all-sheet box structure. You will have to interpolate the details for the 3 front formers from the full size elevation & plan views of the fuselage (Simple rectangles). The two formers at the wing bay are made from strip-wood and full-size sketches are provided to enable you to fabricate them directly over the plan.

The tail, fin & rudder are simple all sheet structures.

The wings are shown “full size”, as two overlaid panels. A separate sketch provides the dihedral detail for the ‘rudder-only’ controlled machine. (This should be reduced if you wish to add ailerons).  The rib detail is shown in a simple sketch. The wing ribs are similar as the wing is of parallel chord, but some “adjustment” to the depth of the centre section ribs is required to allow for the fully sheeted centre bays. (If you use cap strips on the wing ribs it makes all the ribs the same ! ).

The construction is straightforward and offers a great “retro” build to those that enjoy some traditional balsa bashing. It would also be suitable for a novice plan builder.

Treat yourself to a classic “retro” build project, and have the satisfaction of creating your own version of this ‘Classic’ sport model from the “Keil Kraft” RC power model range at the fraction of the cost of a current ARTF, or kit. Original Keil Kraft kits are difficult to find, and unbuilt kits are expensive. This plan allows you to replicate the Outlaw at modest cost so that you can enjoy flying it – rather than treasuring an unbuilt example !

A scanned copy of the original building instructions is included with the plan set, making this a real practical ‘retro’ treat !
