Unlike most books about the Tokko Tai - (Special Attack Unit) - aka Kamikaze,
which focus on the actual attacks, this book focuses on the individual pilots,
and their personal profiles.
It includes many of the final letters written by the pilots before their
missions. As a poignant note, the vast majority of these are addressed to
the pilots mothers, and express the chagrin of not realizing during their last
encounter, that it was indeed the last. Very few are addressed to fathers,
and surprisingly few, if any, expressing any kind of patriotic fervor, or homage
to the emperor.
The back has a index of the names of all known Tokko Tai pilots. There
is a generous number of pictures, with nearly every page spread containing
images (with the exception of the name index in the back).
