This auction is for all of the words/phrases on the 'Vocabulary List' of the National Numeracy Strategy for Key Stage 2.

The Numeracy Vocabulary Display will be supplied in Adobe PDF format.

'Adobe Reader' is free software that lets you view, print, search and share Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files securely. The software can be freely downloaded at www.adobe.com

Hundreds of words/phrases!

The words/phrases are presented as sets of Flashcards which can be printed out and, if you wish, laminated.

All sets of Flashcards use the recommended font for Primary School children - Sassoon Primary at size 60 bold and can be easily read when used front-of-class. Each word/phrase has a triple border surrounding it.

**You do not need to have the Sassoon Primary font installed on your system to view & print these resources**

Ideal to use as flashcards during the Numeracy Hour, or to supplement Numeracy displays!

Each set of Flashcards is preceded by a title sheet containing all of the words/phrases contained in the set, making it easy for you to see which set(s) you wish to print.

Simply print them as you need them.

The pack contains all the words and phrases that children need to understand and use if they are to make good progress in mathematics.

Here are some ways in which the Flashcards can be used:

* Print out sets of vocabulary appropriate to the lesson being taught & display it on the board, encouraging the children to use it when discussing their maths

* Useful for Classroom Support Assistants use with individuals/small groups and to support children learning English as an additional language

* The Flashcards make a valuable contribution to classroom numeracy displays

* Display sets of words appropriate to the current numeracy topic for the children to learn and spell correctly

 An invaluable resource - all the mathematical vocabulary you will ever need for Key Stage 2 at the touch of a button!

There are three main ways in which children's failure to understand mathematical vocabulary may show itself:

* children do not respond to questions in lessons

* they cannot do a task they are set

* they may perform poorly in tests.

Their lack of response may be because:

* they do not understand the spoken or written instructions

* they are not familiar with the mathematical vocabulary, eg. words

   such as 'difference', 'subtract', 'divide' or 'product'

* they may be confused about mathematical terms such as 'odd' or

   'table', which have different meanings in everyday English

* they may be confused about other words, like 'area' or 'divide', which

   are used in everyday English and have similar, though more precise,

   meanings in mathematics

Therefore, it is important for children to acquire appropriate vocabulary so that they can participate in the activities, lessons and tests that are part of classroom life.

Mathematical language is crucial to children's development of thinking. If children don't have the vocabulary to talk about division, or perimeters, or numerical difference, they cannot make progress in understanding these areas of mathematical knowledge.
