VOLUME 100 for 1984

Founded in 1887 by Frederic William Maitland, the Selden Society is the only learned society and publisher devoted entirely to English legal history.  This includes the history of the law, the development of legal ideas, the legal profession, the courts and legal institutions, individual judges and lawyers, legal literature and records, the languages of the law, legal portraiture and costume;  in short, researching the history of everything which is characteristic of our unique English common law and legal system  Most of the annual volumes consist of original source materials, never before in print:  early law reports, courts records, judges notebooks, legal treatises, precedent and practice books, and compilations of documents brought together by the Society's editors for the first time. 
   
This work is Volume I only of a 2 Volume set, the second was not published until 1987. This volume contains cases selected from the plea rolls of the King's Bench and Common Pleas arranged under thirteen headings: threats; assault and battery; besetting; false imprisonment; resisting legal process; rescuing or releasing prisoners; escaping from prison; abducting wives; abducting non-feudal wards and daughters; abducting servants and villeins; interfering with franchises and liberties; arresting goods; taking and carrying away goods. With an Introduction which contains chapters on, the nature of trespass, the control of the jury, and, the substantive law of tort.

Over 400 pages in total with the main part, the cases, printed in Latin with on opposite pages the English translation.

A very good clean solid binding, pages are clean, all complete.
