Join The Quekett Microscopical Club

The Quekett Microscopical Club is the leading organisation for all who are interested in the microscope and microscopy.  We have an international membership, with both amateur and professional microscopists who freely share their knowledge with beginners and new members.  The Club is a registered charity and ‘learned society’ – our stated aims are to promote the understanding and use of all aspects of the microscope. 

Founded in 1865 and named after a famous Victorian microscopist, Professor John Quekett, the Club is the second oldest organisation in the world dedicated to microscopy.  Whilst continuing some of the traditions of our Victorian founders, we are very much a friendly club for today’s microscopists and cover all aspects of the subject ranging from the history of the microscope and slide collecting, to the latest advances in digital imaging with the microscope.  Many of our members are experts in biodiversity of microscopic life and contribute to scientific knowledge of these organisms.

Membership of the Club is open to all, from beginner to advanced amateur and professional microscopists.  The Club publishes the Quekett Journal of Microscopy twice yearly which provides peer-reviewed papers on all aspects of microscopy; our informal Bulletin, also published twice yearly, provides reports of meetings and informal articles.  Club meetings are held monthly at the Natural History Museum in London with regional meetings across the UK on a yearly or twice yearly basis.  All members can contribute to the Club and exchange information via this website, which provides both public and members’ only access, and our forum dedicated to discussion of matters microscopical.
