What condition is it in?

I stress I’m not a collector, but I hope that what my assessment lacks in technical expertise is compensated for by naïve honesty.

The cover is in pretty good condition as it has a plastic cover. The inner sleeve, which is printed to look like a tablecloth, is similarly in good condition. The record looks fine.

Will the LP be securely wrapped?

The first LP I sold, judging from feedback, arrived safely and undamaged. Hence, I’ll be packing future items in a similar manner. I know collectors hate to see things like damage to corners of album sleeves, and I am mindful of the need to have a robust package.

I remove the LP from both its inner and outer sleeve, as I’ve read that otherwise they can be torn in transit. I wrap the LP in greaseproof paper and put it in its plastic cover (if it has one – and not all of them do). I wrap it in bubble wrap, and pack it (together with the sleeves) on each side with sheets of old corrugated cardboard. (The cardboard I’m currently using comes from boxes used to deliver a PC and a fridge, so it’s fairly tough stuff). Finally, I wrap the lot in brown paper.

How is postage calculated?

I charge for An Post Standard Post, which I find to be a prompt and reliable service. Its rates information is here:

A single LP, after packing, seems to be just within the size dimensions to qualify for the 1 kg packet rate (my first one worked, to have total dimensions of about 840mm, not far from the threshold of 900mm). This is just as well as costs for international post of a parcel are significantly dearer. The upshot of this is there is not necessarily any saving in postal costs if you purchase two LPs. I will probably send each under separate cover to avoid the higher parcel rate.
