NOTHING IS UNDERRATED, the second album of Joe Lally's late-2000s solo foray, finds the former Fugazi bassist fleshing out the minimalist, bass-dominated structures of his debut, THERE TO HERE, with better production choices, smartly layered instrumentation, and catchier melodies. All told, NOTHING IS UNDERRATED is a much better record than THERE TO HERE, with a song cycle that rivets from beginning to end, and recalls the days when bassists were the heroes of the American rock underground. A great leap forward for Lally.

Nothing Is Underrated, like Joe’s first album The to here, was produced by Ian MacKaye at Dischord House and was mixed at Inner Ear Studios.

Joe has again collaborated and recorded with many fellow musicians, including: Ben Azzara - drums (The Capitol City Dusters, DCIC), Andy Gale - drums (Haram), Eddie Janny - guitar (Rites of Spring), Sam Krulewitch - kayboards (Capillary Action), Ricardo Lagomasino - drums (Capillary Action), Ian MacKaye - guitar (Fugazi), Guy Picciotto - guitar (Fugazi) and Devin Ocampo - drums (Medications).

Since 2003, when Fugazi collectively decided to take an indefinite hiatus from recording and performing, Lally has been concentrating on developing a solo project that expands upon the crucial elements he contributed in that band; his characteristic taut, intelligent basslines are present throughout his solo work, complemented with a disarmingly direct vocal style and his contributors. His solo work is a fascinating project for fans of Fugazi, and thoughtful, spare experimental rock in general.
